Chillin .. 

Mom, I don’t even see how you do it. But everybody says that about their mom right? On mother’s days everybody’s mom is the greatest person. But is that really real? Do kids these days have the motivation to appreciate their mom daily or do they just ask ask ask, and never give? That’s just questions for our youth.

As for me, my mom and I are like best friends, but it hasn’t always been like that. See my mom has been out of 5 marriages, working on her damn near 5th degree, working 3 jobs just to pay off bills, debt, and give to her kids. Yeah, she’s just like most moms right? But there’s more to it. Personally, I can’t allow myself to sit and complain about little material things, but when I recently visited this lady I saw that maybe happiness costs too much. She takes care of her sick grandparents, brought in a child after raising me and my sister, breaks down to me monthly, but still keeps going. I wonder why. What is motivating her such that every 2 weeks she works for a check and it’s gone the day she gets it. Or that when I was sick 4 years ago she flew to MD and took control of the hospital and saved my life. Maybe this open letter to her will be the best gift she ever got, because she and I are often so busy working hard that we don’t tell each other how much we love and are proud of the other. My hustle comes from her. Now that I can sit here and say that yes, I actually can help my mom out with things because my grind allowed me to is real.

So I say all this as a reminder to cherish your mom and shower her with love not only on mother’s days, but every day. You only get one mom and when she is gone that’s it. R.I.P to all the moms who have passed and my heart goes out to the children who have to live without their mom; whether she’s passed on, struggling with drug abuse, or just not in your life for some reason. Be strong for her. Same for the young moms striving daily to provide for their children, keep on pushing and don’t give up. As for me, my mom is 400 miles away but I never forget about what she did for me daily. As common of a saying as it has become, it remains true that I really couldn’t and wouldn’t be where I am without her and God. With maturity I realized that it just wouldn’t be possible, she sacrificed everything to make my dreams come alive and now as things unfold in front of our eyes I will soon take care of her and that’s my biggest goal. Happy Mothers Day not only to my mom but all the moms in the world in all conditions. Bless -PATisDOPE
